The Belgian First Division A, known today as the 1A League, wasn’t created by one single person. Instead, it was formed in 1895 by the Royal Belgian Football Association (RBFA) — the official football federation of Belgium.
At that time, the RBFA was led by its first president, Edouard de Laveleye, one of the key figures who helped organize the country’s first national football competition.
The very first season of Belgian top-division football began in 1895–96, marking the birth of what would later become the modern Jupiler Pro League.
Since then, the league has grown into one of the oldest, most historic football competitions in Europe.
